Cinematic Ideas for Short Film

Cinematic Ideas

- First shot, POV, opening eyes, looking around, heavy breathing with diegetic sounds
- The POV shot can be used to show the audience the film through the eyes of one character this helps the audience become emotionally attached to the chacter and also more scared as it could seem as if they are directly in danger
- long shots could be used to establish the scene and could for example put into perspective how derelict or deserted the place is
- over the shoulder shots are some of the best for building tension as they add a lot of suspense. it is usualy used around mirrors and reflections so that the audience can see what's happening as soon as the character does, this is normaly used to show a figure stood behind a victim.
- Zooms could be used to add to the dramatic effect and create the element of suspense and fear as you don't know what you are going to see next.
- Low angle shots could be used to show how intimidating a villain or an object could be it also could make the audience seem weak and insignificant
- hand held camera shots could be used to give a sense of reality. It makes the audience feel more involved and adds to the tension of the scene as you feel as if you where there.
- tilted angle shots could be used to add a lot of dramatic tension to the shots
- tracking / panning shots to connotate movement this will be used to give the idea that a character is bieng followed or watched. it also could establish one of the scenes so that the audience can get a full view. Another great use of this king of shot is that when the camera is moving you do not know what is going to be shown next
- close ups to show the reaction of the actor this will show the most emotion in the character and will be very important in some of the key scenes to show their importance
- birds eye / High angle to make the figure or the object that is bieng looked down upon seem completely powerless and vulnrable
- Diegetic sounds, rustling bushes, footsteps, shot from withing the bushes focusing on simon
- Music which starts upbeat, fades into non-diegetic soundtrack - ominus, building suspense
- Wide, tracking shot of  his facial expressions
- POV shot where bag gets placed over his face
- flashes of high key lighting to signify dream sequence

- Dream sequence is from the perspective of simon however its as though he is watching his younger self. he is not in his own body during these
- Extreme long shot in dreams + wide shots to establish where he is and why it is significant. each memory will be a key moment that can relate to the situation he is in now - e.g. Memory of simon running, he may think about running away now, to escape the people who have taken him

- Memory of hiding from someone behind a wall, sirens and torches

- There will be a light haze, yellow/orange during the dream sequences to make it noticeably different to the real world
- Sounds of a car engine during real world scenes as he is kept in the back of a van, each time the "van" goes over a bump a new memory transitions
